It might sound like an odd question, but it’s worth asking simply because you can gain a lot of knowledge from doing so. In fact it could make it even easier to ensure you have nothing but positive reviews from every person who stays there in the future.

Why is this so? Simply because it gives you an opportunity to see your holiday let through the eyes of your guests. You may have known what you were offering and what the condition of the property was when you first made it available to rent. But this is very different from staying in it for a few days during each season.

What is the advantage of being your own guest?

There are plenty of advantages, but one of the best is that you’re able to see every aspect of the property as your guests will see it. If you discover a light bulb has blown in a lamp, you can change it. If you find the oven doesn’t work properly you can get it fixed. If you realise there aren’t enough towels to dry off with after a bath or shower, you can provide more.

In short, you are there to iron out any niggles or problems, so your customers don’t have to be the ones to inform you. While they might tell you so you can make things right, they may also tell their friends and family. They may even leave comments on your website for everyone else to read.

However if you have stayed in your property before them, you’ll ensure everything is sorted out and ready for your next guests. Remember, bad news always travels faster than good news, so it’s best to make sure you only create the opportunity for good news, don’t you think?

Seeing your holiday rental in an entirely different way

If you take care of your own holiday let you’ll be in there to clean and freshen up the place after each guest leaves and before the next arrives. But this doesn’t give you much time to actually SEE the place through their eyes. Remember, your guests won’t have seen the property before, so they’ll view it in an entirely different way to how you will.

This is why it makes sense to stay in your property once every season. It need only be for a weekend, but it will enable you to focus on every aspect of the property. Not only can you check everything is working as it should be and the facilities are at their best, you might also get ideas on how to make things even better. You may notice things you wouldn’t ordinarily notice when you are simply cleaning in between guests. A good example would be slightly tired looking paintwork or a wooden floor that needs re-treating, or perhaps just the realisation that the sofa needs more cushions for added comfort.

Whatever type of property you have, it will undoubtedly benefit from having you as the guest every now and then.

How often do you stay in your holiday rental property?
