I’m guessing it’s usually because the information makes you react in some way – whether it’s because you’re impressed, amazed or just because you like the tweet.

But how can you make sure other people read your tweets and instantly want to retweet those too?

By following these tips to help ensure you maximise the odds of being retweeted as often as possible.

1. Have a professional profile and image

You can now add a large banner style image at the top of your Twitter page, as well as a smaller picture to the left. When you have a holiday let to promote, the bigger image is ideal for displaying a landscape image of your property or the local area. Something that instantly captures the desire in someone to want to stay or go there. You can then either choose to personalise your page by adding a head shot of you, the owner, as the smaller image, or have an image of the property itself.

While you want to promote your holiday rental on the site, it helps enormously if people know there is a human behind it. So if you do decide to use your own image as the profile pic – smile (it’s not rocket science!) and look approachable, friendly. It’s probably a good idea to get someone to take several shots of you – it can take a while before that smile looks natural when you’re posing for a photo!

Don’t forget to add some information in your profile too and of course include a link to your holiday let website. Letting people know who you are and what you do is half the battle – they’re less likely to share a tweet if they haven’t got a clue about you or what you do.

2. Tweet information about things related to your holiday let

Notice I didn’t recommend you tweet about your holiday rental. You might be on Twitter to ensure you can promote your business, but people won’t follow you for that reason. They will follow you because they like your tweets and they find your account informative and useful. So those are the kinds of tweets you need to make sure you provide.

Maybe your local restaurant just won an award. Maybe you’re local beach is hosting a sand castle competition. Maybe there’s a local festival taking place. Whatever it might be, share something people will enjoy finding out more about. It increases the odds they’ll share it as well.

Of course, if you’ve just make some major renovations, installed a swimming pool or hot tub, or created a beautiful outdoor dining area, then that’s also tweet-worthy news. But it’s probably best for that not to be your first tweet! Wait until you’ve built up a following and have interacted on other’s tweets before bragging about your own accommodation.

3. Keep it brief

You might think you have to be brief thanks to Twitter’s character limit, and you’d be right. However you don’t have to use all the character’s provided. In fact your tweet is more likely to be retweeted by your followers if you keep it short and sweet. Bear this in mind whenever you have something to say or share.

Take your time when drafting each tweet to create some intrigue or humour or astonishment. A good tip is to investigate the tweets that do get retweeted – why do they? By learning the way that other people write to get retweeted will help increase the likelihood of yours also getting shared.

Follow these simple tips to increase the chances of your tweets being shared and to help gain new followers. The more followers you get, the more your property is getting in-front of potential guests, the more chance you have of filling your calendar with lovely bookings.

If you have a Twitter account for your holiday let business (a great platform to reach out to a wider audience when it comes to promoting your holiday rental), what makes you retweet something someone else has written?
