Nowadays there’s a lot more to the social media site than meets the eye.

One of the biggest plus points Twitter has to offer is the ability for you to tack a photo onto a tweet. If someone looks for a particular search term, a section filled with photos will appear at the top of the search results. Furthermore each tweet with a photo attached appears with a ‘view photo’ clickable link.

So what has this all got to do with your holiday let?

Well, research performed by Dan Zarrella (the Social Media Scientist) found that tweets with images that had been uploaded to Twitter and then published were almost twice as likely to receive retweets.

This means your message will be seen by more people.

And if that message is designed to promote your holiday rental property by getting it in front of a wider audience, you can imagine how powerful it could be.

Choosing your photos wisely

Of course it isn’t enough to choose any old photo, like the ones you took of the hanging baskets outside your holiday let that were a little blurry and out of focus. The image and the tweet must be in perfect harmony and there should be a strong reason why people would want to retweet that image.

If you’re short on inspiration take a look around Twitter and see which types of images tend to be retweeted the most.

Which category does your photo tweet fall into?

Certain types of tweets are more popular than others.

For example news tweets are the most retweeted because they are current. Can you generate a photo for your tweet that is also newsworthy?

One example would be to take a pic of the opening day of a market or event taking place close to your holiday let. With appropriate keywords in the tweet this would encourage people to retweet it.

It’s timely, but it would also show people there’s a lot going on near your holiday rental property.

Second most popular are instructional tweets.

You can use this terminology quite widely too. How about a pic and tweet relating to the 3 best walks from the door of your holiday rental?

There are all kinds of ideas here to use once you get the hang of thinking in images as well as words.

Be creative

Don’t be afraid to be quirky either.

You could add quotes and captions to your photos before you upload and post them.

Anything you can do to encourage retweets and to capture other people’s attention on Twitter is a good thing.

You may even find your holiday rental website garners more traffic from certain posts, which allows you to tailor your efforts for even more success in the future.

Why not try this festive season and see what reaction you get?

Remember when Twitter was all about those 140 characters and little else?
