Google have started delivering warnings to those website owners without a mobile friendly version of their website, stating \u201c\u2026 These pages will not be seen as mobile-friendly by Google Search, and will therefore be displayed and ranked appropriately for smartphone users.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

In other words, their website may no longer be ranked in mobile search results if there\u2019s only a desktop version of the site available.<\/p>\n

With the number of global internet users using mobile devices to search online overtaking desktop users*, it could come as a huge blow to many holiday rental owners who do not have a mobile friendly version of their website.<\/p>\n

And this isn\u2019t unfamiliar territory.<\/p>\n

In June 2013, Google announced they would introduce penalties to websites that generate errors for mobile users, resulting in less visibility of non-mobile friendly websites in their smartphone results.<\/p>\n

So what we\u2019re seeing now is a last reminder to get your website mobile friendly ASAP, or else \u2026<\/p>\n

What will happen?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Owners of websites without a mobile friendly version of their site will be contacted by the Google Webmaster Team.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re one of them, you\u2019ll receive a message within your Webmaster Tools account and to your associated email. The email subject line reads \u201cFix mobile usability issues found on [your website URL]<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

The email details the issue \u2013 critical mobile usability errors – and provides information and recommendations on how to fix it.<\/p>\n

So once again, Google\u2019s search result algorithm is set to change.<\/p>\n

Are you prepared?<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s what you can do today:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Check to see if your website is fully responsive or has a mobile friendly version \u2013 you can test it yourself via Google\u2019s fab little mobile-friendly testing tool: https:\/\/www.google.com\/webmasters\/tools\/mobile-friendly\/<\/a><\/li>\n
  2. If it does, you don\u2019t need to do anything more<\/li>\n
  3. If it doesn\u2019t, you need to rectify the issue as quickly as possible:\n
      \n
    1. If you manage your own website via WordPress or similar CMS \u2013 add a mobile friendly display plugin to your site, or upgrade to a fully responsive website (this simply means the site will re-format automatically to suit the device it\u2019s being viewed on).<\/li>\n
    2. If you use a website builder, check there\u2019s a mobile friendly option and ensure it\u2019s activated, or upgrade to a template that is fully responsive (if available)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      You have been warned.<\/p>\n

      Don\u2019t make the mistake of ignoring this update and missing out on potential bookings from the growing number of mobile device users.<\/p>\n
