Do they come across as positive or negative? It’s possible to have a bit of both in some posts, but on the whole do they lean towards one more than the other?

The power of positivity

When you’re blogging to help promote your holiday rental property, it’s good to put yourself in the shoes of the people who will be reading your blog. Hopefully they’ll be individuals who might be thinking about booking your holiday let in the near future.

So think about their reactions if they read a blog post that’s filled with negative language.

For instance you might write about the significant amount of snow the area got last winter. Maybe travel was difficult and the village was cut off. Maybe some of the local shops were closed. This all sounds pretty negative.

Now let’s turn this around and describe the same scene with positive language.

The snow made your holiday rental look like a winter wonderland. Guests were able to cosy up inside with a roaring log fire to keep them warm (and maybe even provide a touch of romance). Long winter walks in cool sunshine through the snow revealed an amazing new side to the village and its many attractions.

Can you see how much more powerful this description is compared to the one above?

While both are true, the one filled with positive language just begs you to make a booking for next winter in the hope you can experience the same thing.

Edit before you publish

It can take a while to practise writing like this until it comes naturally. That’s why we’d recommend editing your blog posts before you publish them.

You should do this all the time anyway.

However if you read them through for negativity and replace anything you find with a positive point of view instead, you’ll be surprised at the difference it makes.

It’s not just a question of popping in some positive words either.

As you can see from the example given above, you have to focus on a whole new point of view in order to carry this off successfully.

Start as you normally would, with a solid idea for a blog post about some aspect of your holiday rental property or the local area. Then consider how to approach that idea in a positive way.

Of course you’d normally choose positive ideas anyway. But as we saw in the example above, it’s easy to put both a positive or a negative spin on any idea. It just depends on how you see it.

Are you seeing things positively enough?

A blog is a powerful tool when you have something you want to promote – like a holiday rental.
