If you do, you probably don’t relish the idea of taking photos of your holiday rental to help market it online.

But, it doesn’t have to be a big thing.

All you need is a camera (ideally a decent SLR one, but at the very least, one that has the ability to take high resolution images) and a little time.

Oh and a few tips.

Today we’re giving you just two tips to help you take a better shot every single time.

Tip 1: Stay simple

It’s very easy to over-complicate a photo by trying to cram way too much into it.

Keeping it simple means just that – focus on one thing. Make that thing the main attraction in your photo. Try a close-up. Try taking a photo from a distance. Try it in different lighting. But always focus on one key element and see how much better the results are.

This can also give you the freedom to be a little more creative – even if photography isn’t a first love (or even second or third!).

You don’t have to get bogged down with apertures or speeds or anything like that. Just hold the camera steady and see what you can do – or if you can use a tripod, all the better.

Focusing on one simple thing means you have a lot less to think about… and fewer ways to mess it up!

Tip 2: Take plenty of shots

You never know when you’ve captured the right shot. And the chances of getting it just right on your first attempt are pretty slim – particularly if you’re not an avid photographer.

The solution?

Take loads of photos. Click away!

As we said before, try different angles, lighting, staging, etc. Remember, your objective is to appeal to people who land on your website or wherever else you’ve got photos of your holiday let, to entice them to make a booking. So take hundreds if necessary and pick out the best ones.

This is the beauty of the technological world we live in, digital cameras allow us to be snap-happy. Afterwards, you can check the results of your efforts and delete any that don’t look good.

But be careful … if you’re taking photos outdoors, or looking at the results on a small screen, you can’t always tell how good (or bad) a particular photo is. Review it on your computer before deleting to be on the safe side.

Be proud of your photos

We’re not all naturals at taking photos. However, if you keep the above two tips in mind, your holiday rental website may just look a lot better and more impressive than it does right now.

The more you complicate things, the harder it becomes to keep everything in mind when you’re trying to take photos.

So remember to focus on something specific and take plenty of photos. Spending a bit of time here, could improve your online marketing collateral ten-fold.

Do you avoid taking photos as much as possible?
