But if you’re not a natural photographer, how can you make sure your photos don’t detract from the holiday let, instead of helping to market it?

By using a few simple techniques to capture clear, appealing images.

Here are three tips that are sure to help you take a more professional-looking photo.

1 Use a tripod

I know, I know – it’s easier to point and shoot than to take time setting up a tripod. But hold on just a sec. If you habitually get blurry pictures, a tripod will help you get rid of this issue easily.

And it doesn’t need to be costly either. Mini tripods that hold a Smartphone will also do the trick. Use one, and you’ll notice a big difference … no more wobbly hands, no more shake, no more blur. Just clear, beautiful pictures.

It could be the best thing you buy to help improve your photos.

2 Use the rule of thirds

Regardless of whether you’re taking a landscape or portrait shot, visualise a grid placed over the image you want to take that divides the area of interest into a 3 x 3 space i.e. nine squares. Picture a tic-tac-toe grid instead if it helps.

Now before taking the shot, make sure you place the most interesting part of the photo at one of the four places where two lines cross each other.

Voilà!

You’ll instantly have created balance, which leads to greater appeal, and makes it far easier to take a good photo.

And if you combine this trick with the tripod, so much the better.

3 Think angles

When you take a photo of something, do you ever change the position you are in? Possibly not (unless you are after all, a closet photographer).

Most people either stand to take a photo, or remain seated if it’s just a quick snap of something.

But unfortunately by doing so, every photo you take of your holiday let could be deemed uninspiring and, well… average.

If you’d rather capture something that’ll appeal, change the angle.

Kneel or lie on the floor and shoot upwards. Or perhaps stand on something tall and shoot pointing down. Either way, you’re creating interest by doing something most other holiday let owners aren’t.

Another tip would be to take the photo from a standing position, but instead of directly facing the target, i.e. your holiday let, stand to one side and take the photo from that angle instead.

The point is to vary things a bit – create intrigue, interest and appeal.

Standing out in the crowd can be difficult when you only have mediocre photos to showcase on your website. But just a few simple tricks can completely change the way your photos appear.

So now go ahead and take a look at your existing photos. Are they clear? Interesting? Do they have impact?

If not, perhaps it’s time to refresh them, remembering the tips mentioned above.

No doubt you recognise the importance of good website photos in helping to promote your holiday rental online.
