{"id":68,"date":"2011-03-22T14:08:54","date_gmt":"2011-03-22T14:08:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.pmpazure.co.uk\/blog\/?p=68"},"modified":"2015-11-12T10:47:43","modified_gmt":"2015-11-12T10:47:43","slug":"tips-for-taking-photos-of-your-holiday-rental-property","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.promotemyplace.com\/blog\/tips-for-taking-photos-of-your-holiday-rental-property","title":{"rendered":"Tips for taking photos of your holiday rental property"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Every picture tells a story.<\/p>\n<p>Or, as American photographer William Albert Allard put it, words and pictures can work together to communicate more powerfully than either alone.<\/p>\n<p>Good photos are as important to promoting your holiday accommodation as good text.\u00a0 Think about it.\u00a0 When you imagine your own holiday do you picture what you\u2019ve read or what you\u2019ve seen?\u00a0 And do agency brochures or websites include terrible pictures?<\/p>\n<p>If you get the photos right you\u2019re halfway to taking a booking.\u00a0 But how do you get the photos right?\u00a0 Here are some tips to start you off.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Start with the basics.<\/strong> You need at least one photo of: kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, living area, exterior.\u00a0 Your guests expect to see where they\u2019re going to be cooking, sleeping, washing, living.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t show one of these, they\u2019ll think you\u2019ve got something to hide.<\/li>\n<li><strong>First impressions count.<\/strong> An obvious point but often scandalously overlooked.\u00a0 So vacuum floors, wash surfaces, clean windows, remove clutter, display flowers.\u00a0 Prepare for your photos as if preparing for your guests.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Highlight the best features.<\/strong> We\u2019ve stressed this before \u2013 what is it that makes your place special?\u00a0\u00a0 The enormous master bedroom?\u00a0 The view of the beach from the balcony?\u00a0 The hot tub big enough to host a football team?\u00a0 Show it to your guests.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Include local attractions. <\/strong>It\u2019s rare that your guests will spend all their time indoors.\u00a0 Why did they come to this area in the first place?\u00a0 Show them the quaint village nearby, the castle a short drive down the road, the beach a 10 minute walk away.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Experiment.<\/strong> Open the curtains and use natural sunlight, close the curtains and use the glow from a roaring fire.\u00a0 Use a flash, don\u2019t use a flash.\u00a0 Take your photos first thing in the morning or as the sun sets.\u00a0 Try different shots and decide what works best for you.\u00a0 There are no definitive rules.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ok, maybe there\u2019s one.<\/strong> Take exterior photos on a beautiful day with blue skies overhead and the sun beaming down.\u00a0 People generally dream of glorious weather when they take a break so show them their dream can come true.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Copy the professionals.<\/strong> Work out what makes their photos so good&#8230; and copy them. \u00a0You don\u2019t need to enrol in a class but pin down one or two tricks of the trade.\u00a0 Stand on a chair to photograph a room, place a bottle of wine with some glasses on a dining table, throw an inflatable chair in the pool.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Get help.<\/strong> If you\u2019re the sort of person who can\u2019t hold the camera steady or can&#8217;t take a photo without planting a finger over the lens, ask a friend to help.\u00a0 Better still \u2013 hire a professional.\u00a0 It may be a worthwhile investment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Think about the photos you want to appear on your website.\u00a0 Think about what makes your place appealing to prospective guests.\u00a0 Then photograph it.<\/p>\n<p>Let every picture tell a story.\u00a0 Let the words and pictures work together to talk to your guests.<\/p>\n<p>Let them promote your place.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every picture tells a story.
