Writing Website Content: Putting the Good Stuff at the Top

How good is your website content? Regardless of what you’re selling – whether it’s a holiday let or something else entirely – you need to make sure you appeal to what the reader needs and wants. If you can do this – and do it early on – you’ll stand a far better chance of making more holiday rental bookings.

With this in mind, let’s focus on what you can do to make sure your website content is up to scratch.

What does your guest need?

Think about your holiday let and about your ideal guest. What do they need when they come to stay at your holiday rental property?

The answer to this could depend on where your property is located. Often they need a break – somewhere relaxing, quiet and far from the madding crowd. Of course they might need a holiday base that is ideal for a family holiday, so don’t make assumptions – think about the options and make a list of needs. Think about previous guests and read reviews of your property too; these will provide you with more ideas.

What does your guest want?

Every guest wants a nice property to stay in: somewhere clean, tidy and appealing. They may also want somewhere easy to reach yet not in a busy area, and close to various amenities. Again, think of previous guests and think about what you would want if you were looking for a property like yours in that particular area.

Clearly the wants of your ideal guest may vary depending on your holiday let. For example, a one bedroom city rental designed for two people will appeal to a very different audience than a farmhouse which can accommodate eight people. Bear this in mind when you are thinking about what your ideal guest would want when looking for a holiday let.

How can you make sure those facts are at the top of your website copy?

Sort your needs and wants into those that are most important. Make sure they are right at the top of your copy. You cannot assume people will scroll down and read the entire page, so everything that is important to sway them into making a booking must be ‘above the fold’. This is the section of copy you can see without scrolling down the page on your website.

Make sure your copy appeals to the type of guest who is looking to stay in a holiday rental property in your area. Appeal to their emotions and let them know what they can expect when they arrive at your holiday let. Sell the experience to them and you might be surprised how many more bookings you get as a result.

Put simply, if you can ensure these needs and wants are dealt with and answered right at the start of your copy, you’ll almost certainly see an increase in the number of bookings you achieve. Unless of course your copy was in great shape before you read this article – in which case, congratulations!
