It’s hard to escape Christmas with it being just a few days away. Although, for many of us, it can still manage to creep up, especially when trying to continue running your holiday let business and secure bookings for the following year.
So, could you get away without promoting your holiday rental on social media for the next few weeks?
Ignore it at your peril
We’ve spoken before about the need to be regular when promoting your holiday let – people tend to become familiar with your posting routine.
Now, if you don’t post any updates to Facebook, Twitter or Instagram over the festive period, people are going to guess why – you’re not working, which may lead them to getting out of the habit of following you during that time. Then by the time 2017 arrives and they’re thinking about booking holidays, they could have forgotten about you altogether.
Schedule. Schedule. Schedule.
The easiest solution to ensure your updates stay regular and you get to enjoy the festive season, is to schedule. Yes, this does take a little organisation, but it will be worth it when you’re able to switch off, at least for a little while.
Simply plan your schedule in advance and work out which days you want to broadcast on – try sticking to your normal routine, but don’t worry too much if it’s not quite the same. Everyone’s routine will be a little out over this time anyway. Then write your posts and schedule them to publish at those times using a tool like Hootsuite or Buffer.

Remember, some people use this time to plan their own holidays
Many people work. So, they’re often too busy during the week to start planning their holiday. And at the weekend they may have so much going on that it’s hard to sit down in-front of the computer to search.
Time off over Christmas is the ideal time to search.
Scheduling regular updates to broadcast on your social media channels – with relevant hashtags to have a greater chance of being found by people outside your circle of fans or followers – keeps the awareness of your accommodation high. And, may even result in enquiries from those using their time off productively.
Whilst we all want some relaxation and enjoyment at this time of year, don’t miss the opportunities that social media can still bring.
And even if you don’t get any new enquiries, don’t forget about the relationship building regular social media activity provides. Someone new may follow you, may even share one of your updates – getting your content in-front of a wider audience. And who knows what could come from that!
So before finishing up today, schedule some posts to your social media accounts.
Then relax, and have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
