But there is a world of difference when it comes to writing for websites, between good writing and writing that engages and persuades potential clients to become customers, whilst having appropriate and effective SEO and being natural, interesting but not too “hard sell”.
And that’s where the skills of a professional copywriter who is trained and experienced in writing for the internet can make the difference between mediocre copy and something that really sizzles.
So if you’re tempted to write your own content, here’s our 4 reasons why you may want to think about employing the help of an expert copywriter:
- How much do you really know about SEO? Effective well written copy should have researched SEO and appropriate keyword density and placement, as well as making full use of good structure, headings and sub headings. But too much, too little or forced SEO will work against you and will not only read badly but may result in search engines de-ranking your site.
- When someone clicks on your website, you have seconds to capture their attention and persuade them to stick around rather than click away. So your heading and first few lines are absolutely crucial when it comes to persuading them that you have something they want in a language they understand. It’s important to identify the features that may attract them (rather than those which may be your favourite) and to spell out what it is that makes your property better and more appealing than any others. And you’ve got to do so in just a few lines.
- Apart from selling the best features of your property and including SEO, your content still has to be well written, interesting, engaging and informative. You’re not just selling a holiday, you’re selling a dream. So your writing needs to conjure up an atmosphere and a touch of magic, at the same time as providing practical information about the region and things to do. It also needs to be fresh and up to date and with an independent perspective.
- At the end of the day well written copy takes a lot of time, research and skill and is a balance between technical writing and artistic flair. Whilst reading what others have written is undoubtedly useful, what you cannot do is to simply copy what they’ve written and there really are no short cuts to creating really good content.
You need your website to be up and running as quickly as possible in order to start attracting clients and so that you can focus on other marketing activities or just getting on with life. What you don’t want to do is spend many hours writing content that is “OK” when what you need is copy that excels.

Hi Guys
Absolutely spot on. The copy on a website needs to grab attention and provide something of value to the reader. It’s not just a place to ‘babble’ it needs to be orientated to the customer with every word able to count.
