A Beginner’s Guide to Social Media Marketing for Your Holiday Rental

If you have a holiday rental you want to make sure you can get it in front of as many potential guests as possible. One of the best ways to do this nowadays is via social media.

Social media marketing is ideal for a holiday let because it allows you to use all manner of methods for connecting with people. You can write content, shoot videos, post photos and even create a dialogue with potential guests. In short, if you’re not doing it, you really should start now.

Which sites should you use?

It depends on what you have in mind. However Twitter is good for short and frequent updates of various kinds. YouTube is perfect for shooting videos, while Pinterest allows you to post photos of various aspects of your holiday rental. Facebook allows you to have a business page to promote everything your holiday let has to offer. So you can see it is worth using more than one social media site to connect with people who like receiving information in different ways. But don’t spread yourself too thin – it’s not necessary to be active in each of them, choose which ones work best for you, your accommodation and your style of socialability!

How do you market your holiday rental?

With all the options available to you, it can be difficult to know how to market your rental property effectively. Obviously you want to build bookings but if you ask for them directly it can backfire. You don’t want to be overly promotional in a way that shouts ‘me, me, me!’

Instead think about putting the focus on your ideal target audience. Let’s say your holiday rental is perfect for families. Make a list of the top five activities family groups can enjoy in the area close to your holiday let. Visit each one – even if you only stand outside by the sign – and make a short video on why the whole family will love it.

Remember too that you can link your social media efforts together. At the end of each video in the example above, mention the URL for your website and display it at the bottom of the screen. Write an article for your website on each attraction and where it is in relation to your holiday let. Tweet the links and connect with people, inviting them to comment if they have visited the place in question.

This is just one idea, but you can see how effective it can be in helping you to promote your holiday rental in a more subtle way via social media. The idea is to build a following, but people won’t want to follow you if all you’re doing is promoting your holiday accommodation. You must be useful, helpful and eager to assist and provide worthwhile information. You might be surprised how well this ‘reverse psychology’ works!

So make today the day you start using social media to build a bigger and better business. If you want more bookings for your holiday let, this is the way to reach a wider audience all year round.
