The content on your website will help to determine where your website ranks in search results.
The better quality content you publish, the more authority Google sees your site to have, the higher it will place you.
Are you happy with where your holiday rental website ranks?
Most website owners will strive to get the best results they can. If you get a good number of visitors, you’re going to get more bookings, right?
In theory, yes.
But here’s the thing – in the past you could put any old content on your website and it could rank pretty high, provided it had some good keywords in it.
That’s not the case any more.
Too many websites, too many changes to Google’s algorithm and a heap of other factors now also play a part.
We’ve talked before about the importance of having some personality on your blog – letting you shine through.
Well, there’s a lot to be said for being original too.
Being original will help you create quality content that people are more likely to read, which in turn should reflect well on your website rankings.
“How can I be original?”
If you’re unsure, a good tip is to look at what your competitors are doing and replicate it with a different spin.
This isn’t plagiarism. We’re certainly not suggesting you take someone else’s content. You’re simply getting an idea from elsewhere to create your own unique content.
This may seem hard, but the truth is, you don’t need to be wildly different.
Let’s say another holiday let owner has written an article featuring the top five attractions near their accommodation.
Do something similar, but with a slight twist.
For example, try the top five haunted places near your holiday let. Or you could try the top five places your kids loved (not you), or the top five free outings… you get the idea.
Just add a twist for originality.
And of course, you’ll be writing it in your own voice as well. This will automatically create a different spin – let’s face it, there’s only one you!
Being original, using your own voice can be hard to achieve at first. It can also be a little daunting putting yourself ‘out there’.
But it’s one of the best ways to start building trust with your audience.
And by building trust, you start to build relationships. By building relationships, you start to widen your audience reach. And by widening your reach, you start to get more enquiries.
You should also bear in mind when starting out, it’s likely to take time to ‘find’ your true voice.
Accept this from the start and you’ll have more confidence exploring all the possibilities for your own unique writing style.
It starts with an idea, where you take that idea is what will determine the response.
Originality also has to do with giving your readers something more, something they didn’t know before.
For example, let’s say your content is about five ways to get the most out of [a nearby park].
This could be a park your reader has already heard of. In fact, because they want to holiday in the same area as your holiday let, they’ve already made a mental note to visit.
But since you’ve revealed five ways to get the most out of that park, you’ve given them something extra. Now they’ll definitely visit, armed with the key insights you’ve described.
There are ways to be original, even when you touch on the same subject another holiday let owner has used.
And by being original, you’ll create engaging content that will benefit your audience and your business.
