According to Jim Keegan, a man who has extensive experience in social sales techniques, people who use social media to drive sales outperform those who don’t by a whopping 78.6%.
This research was carried out in 2012, but there’s no reason to assume a similar figure (or possibly higher) wouldn’t be true today as well.
What does this mean for your holiday let business?
Well, regardless of whether you have one holiday let or many, you need to seriously consider the power of social media when it comes to promoting what you have to offer.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re offering a great ongoing deal, a one-time only special offer or simply a great holiday rental in a desirably part of the world.
What matters is that social media provides you with a strong and powerful platform on which to reach the very people you’re trying to ‘sell’ to.
What makes social media this powerful?
There are many reasons why social media works, however the best clue is in the word ‘social’.
There’s ample evidence to suggest people engage more readily with businesses that project a personal side.
Think about it for a moment.
Why do you read blogs? Why do you follow certain people on Twitter or Facebook?
The answer will always be the same – it boils down to the fact that you follow people who are just that – people.
It doesn’t matter whether they’re a one-man band or the head of a multinational company – if they’re portraying a personal side, rather than a hard stony corporate side, that appeals to all of us.
Reaping the benefits of personalising your business
Choosing a holiday let can be a tough process.
People want a nice property in a nice setting, whatever that may mean for them.
You might wonder where you fit into all this as the person who owns the holiday let. However, in reality you have an important role to play.
If people can identify with you on social media as someone who cares deeply about their holiday rental business, they will see that you take good care of it.
They will also see you care about ensuring they have the best start to their holiday.
Maybe you could promote the welcome pack they’ll get when they walk into the holiday rental. Perhaps you can share information about the other personal touches you’ve made that will make their experience all the more pleasurable.
Making the different between a good holiday and a great one.
We’ve already learned how powerful social media can be when you want to make more sales. However, if you’re also able to make a more personal and individual connection with people by using these same sites, you may find your holiday rental property stands out from the rest.
By personalising what you have to offer you could end up gaining more attention, more interest and more bookings as well.
Isn’t that what we all want?
