Regardless of whether you have one or more holiday rental to promote, you need to ensure each one provides clear, easy-to-read information.
People could find out about your holiday let in a number of different ways.
They might stumble across your website. They may find you on social media sites. They could come across a listings site that features your property.
However in every case they will want the same thing – easy-to-digest information about your holiday rental.
So how can you best give it to them?
Here’s a tip that will enable everyone who reads about your property get the key information, quickly and easily. Which in turn, will help them work out whether your property could be a good choice for their next holiday.
Use bullet points to break up text
That’s it – bullet points.
These are so often overlooked, but there are plenty of reasons why you should make the most of using them.
To give you an example, below is a piece of (made-up) text about a holiday rental:
“This holiday cottage has two bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with bunk beds. There is a bathroom and a separate WC, and an en-suite in the main bedroom. Guests can use the outdoor barbecue for cooking in the summer months, and there is a fully-equipped kitchen and diner area as well.”
More or less information, I’m sure you see our point – you need to really pay attention to get the information. Basically, you have to actually read the text. Which as you well know, nowadays, few people take the time to do.
Now here is the same information provided in bullet points:
- Double bedroom with en-suite
- Second bedroom with bunk beds
- Bathroom
- Separate WC
- Fully-equipped kitchen-diner area
- Outdoor barbecuing area
You see how much easier it is to digest the information when it’s presented in bullet points?
Bullet points are perfect for those people who scan websites, rather than read them at length.
Of course, you don’t want your entire website content made up of bullet points – some people will bother to read the text you’ve slaved away for hours on – but mix it up. Present key information using bullets, and expand upon it in paragraphs.
And this technique works in other areas as well.
For example you may want to promote some nearby tourist attractions as another reason why people should stay in your holiday let.
Provide that information as a bullet-point list making it incredibly easy for people to see at a glance.
Writing for people who read online
Reading online is very different from reading a book.
People will quite often skim the content to make sure they get the gist of it without spending too long on it.
Keep this in mind whenever you write anything for your holiday let – especially with regard to its features and the benefits of staying there.
In summary, use bullet points on your website. Why?
- It makes it easier for your readers to pull out key information quickly
- You’ll appeal to people who primarily skim read website content
- You can more easily check that you’ve included all pertinent information
