Going on holiday is primarily about getting out and about and exploring a new area. No matter where your holiday rental is, you can be sure your visitors will want to see everything it has to offer.
However there are also times when your guests will want some downtime. Time to recharge the batteries and relax. Or of course there are also those, often inevitable, times when it’s wet outside and your guests fancy staying indoors instead. For these occasions, your guests will appreciate having access to a few different types of entertainment in your holiday rental (unless of course your unique selling point is the lack of gadgets available for guests who want to completely switch off from the outside world!).
If you don’t fall into the latter bracket mentioned above, we’ve put together a list of items you may want to include in your holiday let, to help ensure your guests have the best possible stay with all the comforts of home.
Audio visual equipment
There’s a wide range of items you can have of this type. Obviously you should have a television (ideally a modern flat screen one) along with a DVD player.
Include a wide range of up-to-date DVDs, and remember your target market so you can provide a range of genres to suit differing age groups and varying tastes. Bear in mind that, depending on where your property is located, you may need a license, but it’s a small annual fee.
It’s also strongly recommended to provide Wi-Fi. More and more people expect to be able to use their smart phone, iPad or laptop when on holiday – don’t miss out on a huge portion of the market by not granting them access. And don’t forget, some people work whilst on holiday, or take an extended holiday by opting to work for some of the time they’re away. Offering Wi-Fi could give you an edge, or at least keep you on an even keel, with other holiday rentals in the area.
An iPod docking station is another thing to consider, as is a gaming console. The latter (such as a Nintendo Wii or a Sony PlayStation) may not always be needed; again it depends on your target market. It’s good for families but you don’t need to worry about it too much if your property is more geared up for couples.
Books and games
Of course you shouldn’t forget to include more basic games and things to do either. For example providing a good selection of books – both fiction and non-fiction – would be appreciated by many.
This is also a great way to give your guests more information on the local area. For instance you could display some walking books or books with trails and hiking routes in them. Another good idea is to look for books written by local authors, especially if the stories are based in the local area.
Board games can be a big hit too. The classics such as backgammon, chess, Scrabble and Monopoly are good, but go the extra mile and think of your target audience. What kind of games would they like to play. If you don’t know, why not ask your past guests?
And of course, don’t forget to leave a couple of packs of good old fashioned playing cards – perfect for a spot of post-dinner competitiveness!
One step further
Depending on the size of your holiday let you might even be able to provide other possibilities.
If you have an outdoor area you could think about storing some outdoor games such as boules, swingball, a cricket set …
Finally, make sure you include all the entertainment your holiday let offers on your website too. All of these little things show the thought that’s gone into making sure your guests have the best possible time on their holiday.
