Did you know around 80% of all the pins you’ll find on Pinterest are actually re-pins?
Re-pins are the equivalent of retweets on Twitter. Someone sees something they like and pins it to one of their own boards. Since everyone on Pinterest has the ability to follow boards and find friends, the more re-pins you get the more likely it is your holiday rental will be seen by more people.
We’ve pulled together some tips to help increase your chances of being seen, therefore improving your holiday let’s visibility on Pinterest.
Pin at the weekend
Or more specifically, add new pins on a Saturday. Research has shown these pins tend to get a higher level of re-pins when compared to pins added on any other day of the week.
Include relevant keywords
When you add a new pin to your boards you have the chance to add a description to it.
Think carefully before writing your description. Remember, you can include keywords that will attract the attention of relevant people – the very people who are most likely to be interested in re-pinning your efforts.
For example if you pin a photo of the newly painted front door to your holiday let, complete with flower-filled window boxes, add relevant keywords. These might include “DIY”, “gardening”, “home décor”, and so on.
You should also add other keywords such as “holiday let”, “property” and its specific location, to widen the search parameters. Around 200 characters total is the ideal length to maximise chances of a re-pin.
Pin images that have a good mix of colours (if you can)
These pins tend to be eye-catching which often attract more re-pins. In fact research suggests they may be re-pinned more than three times as often as images featuring just one main colour.
Give in order to receive
Yes, this old rule works for Pinterest too.
Spend some time re-pinning other people’s pins to other boards in your account. (Keep your holiday rental board for your own pins only, or create a separate board for each holiday property you have.)
This ‘giving to receive’ method helps spread your name so people will be more likely to check you out.
You should also try following people who have lots of followers and who regularly interact with different people on their account. This activity, when done frequently, helps to create a bigger and better audience – and more chances for your photos to be re-pinned.
The more images you can get re-pinned by others, the more chance there is of your boards and photos being found. The more popular you are, the more traffic you are likely to get as a result. And that can only be good news when it comes to increasing the traffic to your holiday rental website too.
The overall knock-on effect is hard to deny and over time you will see the difference it can make to your business.
Think little and often, and focus on the benefits that can come when using Pinterest for your holiday let.
